SoundCloud to FLAC Converter

Check a SoundCloud link for the artist's own download, then convert audio files you already have into lossless FLAC in your browser. Smaller than WAV, keeps its tags, free and nothing uploaded.

1. Check the track on SoundCloud

2. Convert your file to FLAC

Your file is converted inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

Lossless, roughly half the size of WAV, and it keeps artist and title tags.

If you're building a library of SoundCloud tracks you want to keep, FLAC is usually the smartest format: nothing gets thrown away, the files are much smaller than WAV, and artist and title tags stay attached.

How this works

The lookup above checks a SoundCloud link and points you at the artist's own download button when they've enabled it, which is the only way to get their original upload. The converter below turns any audio file you already have into FLAC, on your own machine, with nothing uploaded anywhere.

  1. Paste a track URL to see the track and check for a download.
  2. Pick your file: your own upload, a free download, a WAV from a session.
  3. Convert to FLAC and save it. Switch the format to WAV if you want uncompressed instead.

Tracks that the artist hasn't made downloadable aren't available here, and a converter that claims otherwise is handing you the 128 kbps stream rather than anything lossless.

Why pick FLAC over WAV?

Both formats are lossless, so the audio inside is identical. The differences are practical:

  • Smaller files. FLAC compresses without dropping any data. Xiph.org, which maintains the format, puts the typical saving at 30 to 70 percent. A 4-minute track that's about 42 MB as a WAV usually lands somewhere between 20 and 30 MB as FLAC.
  • Proper tags. FLAC stores artist, title, album and cover art reliably. WAV tagging is patchy and often gets lost between apps.
  • Built for archiving. FLAC has built-in checksums, so software can tell if a file has been corrupted. That's useful if you're keeping a collection for years.

WAV still wins when the file is going straight into a DAW or onto an older DJ player, because more software and hardware read it without any setup. Our WAV vs MP3 vs FLAC guide goes through every use case.

What FLAC can't do with SoundCloud audio

A lossless format keeps the audio exactly as it arrives. It doesn't improve it. SoundCloud transcodes every upload into compressed AAC for streaming, and standard streams play at 128 kbps according to its high quality streaming page. A FLAC made from that stream is a perfect copy of the stream, not of the studio master.

If you want a true lossless copy, look for a download button under the track's waveform. When the artist enables downloads, SoundCloud gives you the original file they uploaded, and many producers upload FLAC or WAV. Tracks you buy on SoundCloud can also come with a lossless "Original" download option.

Where FLAC files will play

Most modern music players, media players and DJ apps open FLAC. rekordbox, for example, lists FLAC as a supported format alongside WAV, AIFF and ALAC. Support is patchier on car stereos, some phones and older club players. If a device won't read your file, convert the track to WAV for production and DJ use, or to MP3 with our SoundCloud to MP3 converter for plain listening.

Converting a whole playlist

SoundCloud only offers downloads one track at a time, so a full playlist means gathering the files you're allowed to save and converting them together. The batch converter takes up to 20 files at once and converts them all to the same format.
